A Gran Paradiso of Second Acid Test compatibility
Firefox 3 (Gecko 1.9) alpha 2 came out a couple of weeks back, and word on the virtual street is that all of the compatibility bugs with the Second Acid Test (aka Acid2) have been worked out. For all intents and purposes, Alpha 1 was announced as being Acid 2 compliant back in December, but apparently the development team felt that there were a couple more things to be fixed. Other than that, all the changes seem to be on the Gecko side of things, with the visual appearance of the browser being quite similar to Firefox 2.
On a side note, if you’re running IE7, take the test. Hilarious, huh?
Bonus Esoterica: A side-by-side comparison with Opera 9.10 shows that Firefox renders the test just as well, with the minor exception that scroll wheels on mice do not seem to work, although ‘clicking’ with the scroll wheel and then scrolling does work. In Opera, the scroll function works normally without the click. I definitely don’t have the knowledge to determine whether or not the lack of scrolling is a result of a problem with Firefox not interpreting the scrolling action correctly according to the CSS, or if Windows XP just sucks at life, but I’m leaning toward the latter. If anyone knows for sure, or is experiencing similar behavior in Gran Paradiso, I’d love to find out.
