Get an animated LED sign for your business’ storefront
The following is a compensated review of Proton LED, a site which offers LED signage for outdoor advertising.
When you first arrive at ProtonLED’s website, you’re greeted by what looks like a rapidly spinning molecule and some jaunty music. In other words, a non-standard navigation interface, to say the least. Fortunately, it’s actually not that hard to click any of the links, as they slow down to a pretty manageable speed when you want to click on one. The music is a little annoying, and while it can be shut off by pressing a little blue dot in the bottom right of the screen, there’s no indication anywhere on the page that it’s the music control. Not a great start, but certainly different than your average website experience.
The actual product that ProtonLED offers is an animated sign display for your business that uses a 17MM pixel matrix to create pretty realistic video images on custom-sized screens that can stand up to any sort of inclement weather. From what I can tell, the quality is great for outdoor displays, but it’s tough to tell, because the website doesn’t really offer that many large views of what the actual product looks like. There are a few small images that you can expand from the ‘Technology’ part of the molecule, but then there’s no way to navigate back to look at the other blown-up images. It’s relatively difficult to get a good idea of the actual quality of the video displayed by the LED screens, since the largest video offered is pretty grainy itself and only about 240×240 in size.
The bottom line on ProtonLED seems to be that the product offered is relatively advanced and would make excellent signage for a business looking to advertise in front of their store or in another prominent location. From what their website shows, the quality on the product is high and the screens are available essentially custom-made to order. However, seriously interested parties will find themselves quickly calling the company for more information, as the site is a little over-the-top and lacking deeper content. As an initial interface, the molecule frontpage is novel and doesn’t completely prevent effective navigation, but there are only a few atoms in the molecule, and each is itself only a small tidbit of information that could be expanded upon into many, many more pages.
If you’ve tried or own a ProtonLED sign, please let me know how the experience has been in a comment below.

Do not ever buy one of their led signs!!!!!!! We purchased on in December, 2006. When the unit arrived it didn't work. They had us pull the "brain" (ie mini computer) from the unit and send it back to them on our dime. They sent us another "brain" 2 weeks later. That one didn't work correctly and the image wasn't correct. We repeated the process again. Now the image is correct except that the sign has more than 25 led that do not light up!! We took them to court over the issue and they just laughed and refused to show up for court. They refused to refund our money or fix the sign that never worked. Basically we flushed 12K down the toilet. Don't bother with them go to the ledsigncompany.com to buy a real led sign that isn't made by someone in the garage. I have spoken to over 15 other people who also purchased a sign from them and had very similar experiences. All of us got ripped off and had to spend more money elsewhere to get a replacement sign from a real company that backs their product.

proton is a company in Georgia owned by Mark Brazell and Paul Catignani-two clever con-artists in the business of stealing people hard earned money by purchasing inferior components from Taiwan, and slapping together a horrible, low quality, worthless , junky led signs. They sold me two 4'x'8' which were 8 months late, and never worked right from day one. They refused to service their junk, and refused to refund my money. They never returned my calls, and refused to accept certified letters my attorney wrote them. Their website is now down, and I'm not surprised.
If you need a good LED sign, visit http://www.megatronicsledsigns.com and get a great product for a great price.
I am sorry I ever trusted Proton. I lost my money with proton. Megatronics helped us recover from our loss by offering us a great quality LED sign for a super low price. We've had it up and running for over a year without a single problem.
Stay away from those proton clowns and con artists!!!

You should always ask for a significant number of references when you buy an LED Sign. Asking for 10 or more references will almost always ensure your safety. Make sure to call a few of the references to make sure someone didn't just hand you a list of random businesses!

We to have been taken by proton. After 2 years of trying to make this thing work, we have come to the conclusion that it was a waste of time and money. I am going to try and contact meatronics led signs, and see what ideas they may have to replace the junk from Paul Catignani.

I have plenty of parts that may or may not be helpful to anyone trying to make a Proton sign work again or better. I've decided to scrap my Proton sign after only a few months of reasonable performance.
My $28,000 Proton investment is lost. In addition to the signs I have rental equipment, charges paid to other sign companies, and the annoyance of trying to get Paul and Mark to honor their warranty and fix this sign. I gave up and bought a Yesco sign. We'll see how that goes but I'm already way ahead of where I started with Proton.

Are these idiots out of business now?
Our Proton sign has been a disappointment since we purchased it in 2007. Once again I'm paying a local company to service and attempt to repair it and my contact information for Proton is either outdated or their phones are disconnected.
My Google search for contact info has led me to a number of consumer complaints including these.
If these guys are still peddling signs, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

I guess this is why buying advertising on a blog is a bad idea if you're a terrible company. Doesn't look like anyone has had any success with Proton (if they even still exist).

LED lights are available in a huge variety of white color temperatures (and indeed, colors) but since it has always been easier to manufacture blue LEDs, many cheap LEDs have a naturally cold/bluish tinge.

I could certainly use some of the exterior display panels. $30k down the shitter so far. Has never worked since the day it got here.
What would you sell me everything except the case for ? Maybe I can make ONE good one out of the TWO I have and yours ?
Marty Spaulding (Sep 26, 2010)
I too have $30k down the Proton TOILET. What a waste of grief, time and money.
I have a judgment against them. Completely UNCOLLECTIBLE.
Don't buy anything from PAUL CATIGNANI / Proton LED. I hope all the search engines pick that up.

Does anyone have spare boards for a Proton LED sign that they want to sell. I am trying to fix a 2005 model for my friend and it looks like I will have to either design new boards or buy them from someone online. It appears that Proton does not exist anymore.
Thanks

I have a 5 x 10 panel proton sign. It still works but some of the red LEDs died. It can be replaced. I am willing to let it go.
