Time Warner RoadRunner Internet: The Saga Ends…?

I’ve now had my new cable internet from Time Warner for about two weeks. For the first few days, the service would cut out on me intermittently, as you can read about in this article. Anyway, since I posted that last rant, my service has actually improved. Here’s how it happened: On Sunday morning, while driving in to town, I noticed a Time Warner repair van parked in front of a telephone pole at the intersection of my street and the road to town. I pulled over and asked him if he was working on the cable lines because of a problem on my street. He said that he was checking all the connections because someone had reported a problem with their cable on my street, but that he couldn’t find anything wrong at that particular pole. He asked for my address and said he’d check the outside connection on his way out. Ever since that point I haven’t had a single problem. We’ve had a majorly nasty snow storm drop some heavy, wet slush on us, but the last 150,000 pings to the DNS server at my work have gone through, so I think I’m in the clear. I’m pleasantly surprised enough to give them credit on this one, although I suppose it could’ve been blind luck / a coincidence. I guess I’m pretty happy for the moment, and the connection’s still nice and fast. Also going for them right now….they still haven’t sent me a bill.

I wish I could share the same glowing review regarding TimeWarner. But I cannot. Their interent service is the worst I have had since 1994! It’s worse than my 56K dial connection to my old BBS.
July 2008, We made the choice to pickup TimeWarner’s all in one service (VoIP phone, Cable Internet and Cable TV with DVR). The phone took a while to get our number ported over, a bit of a stress but it’s taken care weeks later. The TV seems to be fine but we have had DVR issues and system lock ups for new reason. I have had to reset the box multiple times but overall it seems to be working.
But the today here I sit in front of my laptop trying to work but my service is pinching out a measely 180K download and just over 1Mb upload. I am as I type this attempting to downlaod a 40MB file and it is downloading and a snail paced 9Kbps a second, that’s 9Kb. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!!!!
I have made weekly calls to TimeWarner and their tech support will always help me fix the problem. They have me do fun things like, release and renew my IP config, Delete and reinstall my Ehternet adapter dirver (WHAT THE F!!) and of course my favorite unplug their network adapter and unplug my router and reset both. YIPPEEEE!!!!!
I have a better idea, how about you fix your crappy network!!!!!!!
As a full time data communications technologist I find it very hard to believe that my throughput problems stem form my Ethernet adapter or termination equipment. I don’t know what TimeWarner is doing behind my connection but I will tell you the performance is disgusting and horrible.
Can you say hello FIOS!!!!! If this trouble is not fixed in the next week or so I’m cutting off TimeWarner and going with AT&T or Verizon ASAP. this is ridiculous. At least now I know why install is free and they have no contract. They couldn’t keep customers if they tried. This is the worst internet service I have experienced in my life and wouldn’t wish it upon my worst enemy.
Good luck!!!

Time Warner Cable is pure evil! Switch to any other service possible!

@Latch,
Interesting that you mention that. Except for satellite, there’s really no other choice. On the other hand, Time Warner just upped my monthly bill to $50, so if they won’t let me downgrade my service to a lower bandwidth, cheaper plan, they’ll be the same price as satellite. That could be the end for cable internet in my house…
